Default 2002 Jaguar X-Type 2.5

Good evening, Jaguar Forum Members, Adm

I recently purchased used 2002 Jaguar X-Type 2.5 with 127k miles respectively. The young lady I purchased car from did not like the car and was not willing to fix it. However, the young lady did inform me that the check engine light was on due to ignition coils. I took car to AutoZone in Potsdam New York for diagnostic test. The Error Codes Read: PO304 Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected, PO305 Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected, P1314 Misfire Rate Catalyst Damage Fault -Bank 2, P1316 Misfire Detected - Cylinder 6 and lastly P1000 OBD Systems Readiness Test Not Complete. ASE certified technician stated likely solution was to repair engine wiring harness ground wire.
I don't have a lot of money and live on fixed income SSD so I purchase six platinum spark plugs/six ignition coils, air filter and gasket rings. Had backyard mechanic do the work for $200 but the check engine light came back on and he stated he found some oil on one of the spark plugs which maybe due to valve cover gasket leakage?
Also I noticed the car ABS and RPM has been going in the red zone so I'm not able to get inspection completed. Can anyone here assist me getting this beautiful car road ready to pass inspection. HELP for JEFF would be appreciated

Welcome to the Forums.

The X Type Tech Section has a lot of threads etc to assist, and a quick ask should get results.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forums Jeff,

Right call to start by having the codes read - wrong call to then begin throwing parts at the vehicle. As you are discovering, this soon becomes an expensive way of troubleshooting a Jaguar. For example the P0304 and P0305 could be a fuel issue - they are not only an indication of ignition issues.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x-type-x400-14/ to the X-Type forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also use the US Northeast Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/ to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Hello,
I'm sorry your first Jaguar is giving you so much trouble.
Doubtless members in our X-type section will be able to point you in the right direction for a fix.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

I had the same problem as you did. I change the 6 engine ignition coils and the valve cover gaskets and that fixed the problem.
