2002 XKR coupe Denver, CO USA
Just replaced my cherished Porsche Boxster with a Jaguar XKR coupe 2002. A tree fell on the Boxster 15 minutes after I parked it one day, and I waited a few months to determine what to replace it with. I soon narrowed my list down to the XK8 series, and while keeping an eye on vehicles at autotrader.com, I accidentally searched XKR instead of XK8 and was surprised about the minor difference in price. Two weeks later, I bought one for a good deal less than I was compensated for the Boxster and am getting used to the XKR in city driving after a 700 mile road trip using i-80. The highway trip demonstrated the prodigious GT orientation of the car. Wow, such major power from 70 Mph to 120 Mph where I went no faster out of concern over end-of-life tires. Felt silly in town days later, getting used to it...
Welcome to this friendly forum.
The XKR is a truly beautiful car - of course you should have bought the convertible but with your magnetic attraction for lumber perhaps a tin top is more sensible.
I'd be interested to hear your comparison of the two cars.

I did not miss the lack of convertible option with the coupe until a week later when I briefly drove a client's 2007 XK. I then noticed that the coupe's open window airflow suffers from the back windows being permanently sealed. Bummer. I was a bit put off by the XK100 series convertibles having a manual tonneau to cover the top when down as Porsche's and Mercedes do not. Ultimately, I made the choice to go with a coupe XKR with 30k more miles vs a convertible XK8. Not sure I made the right choice yet but if I really miss it I'll sell the XKR as my purchase price was under $14k even with various small repairs and the complete replacement of front rotors (all else checked out in top condition as prior owner had replaced much of it already).
The coupe looks so very good.
Now if only the steering were less over-boosted, the exhaust a bit louder, and I could find advice on the difference between various tires (Michelin vs Hancook vs ???).
In one week of Jag ownership I have spent more time trolling forums than I did in five years of Porsche ownership. Uh oh.
