I just wanted to touch base with you all, and introduce myself. I live in Kelowna, BC Canada. I'm a Brit. and have been in Canada since 2005 and loving it. Haven't been back to Blighty yet, and have no plans to do so in the near future. I just love the Canadians and Americans. They are a genuine bunch generally, with no perceived snobbery. I was a cop for 35 years back in the UK. My skills are 'driving' I suppose. I just love driving, in any conditions. I am a Class one Police Advanced Driver. I mention that only to back up my offer of assistance in any driving matters if I can help. Not that you guys need much advice, from the high standard I have seen over here!
I had a 1996 Jaguar XJ6 in the UK and I really missed it, until I bought my Jag over here. This one is a beauty. We will be taking it off the road for the winter, and I would like to hear from fellow members about how I should winterize it. I can 'use' the car but I am not very tech minded, so I will be making use of your expertise. I am probably not in the right section for asking about winterizing, so can you direct me please? This is my cat. 2004 XJ8 V8 Jaguar Vanden Plas. Fully loaded and some! Drives like a dream - fuel consumption's a nightmare! DVD in rear. Memory all round, heated seats all round. Jaguar GPS. Retractable exterior mirrors. Talks to me, and acts on my voice command - British ladies voice - Mmmmmmh! Built-in phones and blue wireless thingy!! (Don't understand all that!) Thank you for allowing me a proud minute.

Oh and thank you 'Cadillac' for your technical help in uploading! Thank you also JimC64 for my upgrading - much appreciated!

Thank you for the compliment, No, I will be taking it off the road in December, early or late December, dependent upon weather. I will probably sleep in it during the winter, just to make sure she doesn't get too lonely! Any tips on how to winterize her? My other car is a Mazda V6 GT wagon 3.2L. Front wheel drive, and with studded tires it is almost too difficult to skid. Yeah right!

Thanks. I plan on driving yea round, unless the snow gets stupid. I do have a Passat with full snows on it, so the Jag may sit for a couple days this winter.

 

Hi - Welcome! Nice car you have. I have an X350 too as well as a 96 XJ6 VDP. Both are awesome cars, but my X350 is the favourite one! On winterizing - not the whole story, but if you intend to store it longtime, it is important to use a good battery tender. Keeping this car electrically active is better. I'd also start it at least once every two weeks to take the air suspension out of sleep mode and recgarge the air springs; otherwise, the car will be sitting flat after a prolonged period of idleness.

 

A battery tender is good idea, one I adopted after losing a couple batteries over the years. I store the 911s and I bought a CTEK Model US800 from Lordco. Many in the Porsche club have the same unit, with good reviews. Fuel stabilizer is a good plan as well.

 

Thank you Rob & Steve. Your advice is very much accepted - especially the part about the suspension and air springs. In the UK we never had the problems of winterizing etc, so I don't know anything about a 'battery tender', what is it and what does it do? Where would I buy one? Concerning fuel, I have been advised to fill the tank completely, and have an oil change before settling down for the winter - is this over the top? What do you think? Thank you again for you friendly welcome and assistance, it is very much appreciated!

Battery tender is nothing more than a trickle charger, but they are "smart" toggling on/off as the battery needs over prolonged periods of idleness.

You can use the fuel stabilizer and nothing wrong with an oil change. Do you have regular access to the car all winter? You're far better off starting it periodically and warming the engine up, driving for a short drive. If you can do that, forget all this other stuff, just use the battery tender between drives.

It is better on numerous components and systems, both electronic and mechanical to keep them running rather than lonterm idleness.

 

Go to Lordco, they're a parts place in BC, there's a couple in Kelowna. Ask for the unit I mentioned, I think you'll like it.

Thank you Mohrd for your welcome, much appreciated. Yes, Rob I used to live in Surrey, but you know when summer comes around up here, it's all very much worth it. Noting that you are in Langley it made me wonder if I have actually seen your car there. I remember seeing one very similar to it when I lived down there, because I always admired and watched the big cats go by! I may be in the wrong part of the site to ask this but here goes; when I put my Jag away for winter, do I have to fill the tank up or will it be okay with a couple of gallons in it and some stabilizer added. I have had conflicting advice about this, and would love to hear some advice off jag owners. Look forward to hearing from you guys.
