I purchased a used 2000 xj8 VDP with 85k miles...drove it to my body shop, all of about one mile, to have some minor blemishes repaired. I was scheduled to pick it up about two weeks later, only to find out it had blown it's timing chain. I finally have the car back and poorer by another $2600...but believe it or not, still very happy with the vehicle. Probably the smoothest ride I've ever had. Now I just want the ins/outs for minor fixes and part replacements. I look very forward to being a new member!

You've already had a very hard lesson in the main weakness of the early V8 engine. Good to hear it hasn't put you off the car.

Head to the XJ (308) XJ8 / XJR section for all the information on your model. In particular, check threads on transmission fluid changes to avoid any more nasty surprises.

sorry to hear about your misfortune but at least now the tensioners will have been done I assume. At that mileage we would have made that recomendation anyway, so at least its outta the way....all good
