All Wheel Drive

I have X-TYPE AWD. Last winter I got stuck in the snow and noticed that only a rear wheel was spinning on a slight incline. My family noticed that no other wheel was moving. I had expected that all the wheels would be involved with the problem especially with AWD or At least to one that was not spinning.. I went to my Jaguar dealer where I was told that only power was applied to the spinning wheel which seemed imcomprehsible seeing that AWD implies power is to be transferred to the wheels or wheel that are not spinning. Matters became more complicated when I was informed that I did not purchase the car with Traction Control or Dynamic Stability Control which implied that I didn't have AWD. These items were never discussed with me ,otherwise I would have considered them. I assumed that I had AWD. When I enquired what indeed entitled my X -TYPE ,as is,to be designated AWL I received nebulous replies all apparently implying that I didn't quite understand and they had no more to say, take or leave it and let's quickly drop the subject and it seemed they were confused also.
I would appreciate what it is I have installed in the car,if anything ,that resembles AWD

Welcome !
Don't be dejected with your AWD system .What's sais in snowy conditions , you should turn off ESP,TCS and some other electronical aids due to the fact that those systems limit your motion in such conditions .For snow FWD seems slightly better choice .

I'm not sure about all the technical aspects of it, but there is a 60/40 (?) rear to front torque bias, so it's possible your rear wheels could spin while fronts weren't. I would think they were still being driven, just not necessarily spinning.
