Don't be dejected with your AWD system .What's sais in snowy conditions , you should turn off ESP,TCS and some other electronical aids due to the fact that those systems limit your motion in such conditions .For snow FWD seems slightly better choice .

I'm not sure about all the technical aspects of it, but there is a 60/40 (?) rear to front torque bias, so it's possible your rear wheels could spin while fronts weren't. I would think they were still being driven, just not necessarily spinning.

Surprised to hear that Nickky.......My 02 AWD X coped very well last winter. In fact it was one of the few cars that could make it out the street
