How's it going guys and gals, my name is Markmont. I'm very very new to cars and everything thats involved with them, but I do have a taste for classy looking cars. So I decided to give a Jaguar a try. I just recently purchased a 99' xj8 for $3500, 64k on the speedometer. Put in about 1800 on initial repairs including the timing chain, hub caps, new battery, some fuses, some electronic fixes and whatnot. So all and all, not a bad deal thus far. The color of the exterior (deep burgandy) sold me in addition to the stability of smoothness on the highway. I bought it more as a long term project. Still plan on having the interior restored to the best of my wallet ability (or lack there of) and adding a good speaker system. So to all you I say a grand, 'HOWDY'.

Welcome to the forum Markmont,

Congratulations on the XJ8 and on getting the all important timing chains done.

Follow this link XJ ( X308 ) XJ8 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X308 section for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You may also like to visit the US Lower Atlantic Region by following this link Lower Atlantic - NC SC FL GA - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forum.

HOWDY Markmont, or should I say Salut.

Welcome to the friendly forum.

If you are very new to cars, then my advice would be, to try and put some cash aside each month to cover for servicing/repairs.

Not always possible, I know.

Also with older cars (and yours is newer than anything I have ever owned) try to develop a good knowledge/relationship with the breakers yards in your area.

+ read as much as you can; Some great FREE downloads through my signature link.

^ Any advice on if I should try to get an extended warranty or not? That's one thing I keep seeing mixed reviews on.

Welcome to the forum Markmont,

Good to have you with us.
You'll get different opinions on the warranty, I'd say no, but put the premium money aside in an account fr repairs.
Enjoy the forum.

If you haven't already done so you should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.

I know this is my introduction page, but is it ok if I ask specific questions about my car on here? Or is that frowned upon? I don't want to get kicked off a forum within 1 day heh.

This section is really only for Intros and you'll find tech questions can be missed.

Follow this link XJ ( X308 ) XJ8 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X308 section. That's the place to post all specific questions about your car.
