Default cant escape the lure of the jag

I have been wanting a jaguar for a long time. Every year I start looking .I hunt on E-bay,craigslist,autotrader and everywhere else I can find. Just when I seem to have found the one for me-It seem something happens so that I cant. But now I'm looking again. I'm married, older, and am in the position to be able to purchase a quality used one. I'm looking at the XJR's mainly,I've been reading on here off and on for a couple of years now. So-Hello everyone . The hunt has officially started.

1. 2000 ,florida,61000 green metallic $ 11,000
2. 2003 maryland,84000 charcoal, $ 13,000
3. 2002 New Jersey,72,000 black XJR-100 $ 12,000
Any recommendations?

The 100, all day only 500 made worldwide, 250 went to the USA. It has every factory option, 19" Montreal wheels, Brembo brake upgrade, no worries on the timing chain tensioners as it post dates plastic ones. Basically the XJR Evolution. Mine never put a foot wrong.

If you are comfortable with the higher cost of brakes components for the brembo's, I would go for the 100 or a '03 R1. My problem with this one is that the price doesn't match the market price for a 100 with 71K miles. Can you post the link to the car? I'm afraid it is a clone or just plain misrepresented. As Sean stated, there were only 500 produced.

Welcome, I wish you will be happy with your decision .
Maintenance should be your paramount concern rather than garage kept .The latter one is mostly for cosmetical

I haven't gone to see it yet, but the 100 had caught my eye too, and it's only a few miles from me. I can go and give it a good look if you're interested... I'm not sure my wife is going to agree to spending that much on a toy right now

Well here's my thought Re: "Special Edition" values....

If a car has been garaged and kept with extremely low miles, I can see the special edition adding extra value. However, when car has been driven regularly, and spent its life as an ordinary car, its value doesn't really deserve a large premium over other similarly equipped models without the special edition badging.

Barry, you are right on the value as it is dependent on the buyer. If you are buying a daily driver, it may not have the same value as it does to one who will pamper it and keep it for another ten to twenty years when it's value may be more appreciated by the market.

That being said, it is unique so you have to decide is it modeel that you prefer over the others. All other things being equal, I would go with the 100. Get both a carfax and a autocheck on it. I have found that they show different things and having both can prove valuable. Also, read the buying guides in the stickies on both this forum and the XK8/XKR forum to get ideas of what to check mechanically.

Good luck
