Wait lincoln uses the AJ-V8, I thought that engine was built by and for Jaguars. Don't tell me that's the same engine every ford owned V8 car uses?
No...I think just the Lincoln LS and Land Rovers use it. Not in any Fords...although, I guess its also available in other displacements, like a 5.0 version. That would be a nice upgrade.

...here's the article on Ford MC's web site:

They share a lot of powerplants and technology though. The new AWD version of the Ford Fusion uses the same Haldex AWD system that Volvo uses.

Now that I think of it...what AWD system is on teh X-Types?

Not sure about the awd system there socal...rednecks around here usually put some glasspacks on there picksups here though...while there trucks bounce because they have no struts/shock!

Well, I'll keep a sharp eye out for any rednecks from Michigan rolling around in southern CA. The ghetto mufflers here are all 12" diameter coffee cans on Honduhs.

Ask the next redneck with a truck if he knows what glasspacks are and see if you get this explanation...

[blockquote]A glasspack, sometimes called cherry bomb (a popular brand of glasspack), is a kind of automobile muffler in which the exhaust gas passes straight through the center of the muffler. Packed fiberglass surrounds the exhaust channel and absorbs some of the high-frequency sound. All mufflers impede the flow of exhaust gas and create back pressure on the engine. Muffler designs involve tradeoffs between noise, back pressure, and cost. Replacing the factory muffler with one that creates less back pressure is a modification that is often made by hobbyists interested in increasing the engine power of their cars. Glasspacks are an old, simple, and relatively inexpensive design. They are very effective at reducing back pressure, but not very effective at muffling noise. Thus, they preserve more of the engine's power while sounding louder than conventional mufflers. Some modern muffler designs are similar in principle to the glasspack, but use more sophisticated sound-absorbing materials such as stainless steel mesh, and more advanced acoustical engineering, reducing noise while retaining the power-preserving advantages of a straight-through exhaust flow.

[/blockquote]They've been around as long as cars have been modified...you find any nice sounding classic V-8, and odds are they are using these in their exhaust system. Many of the new V-8 owners have gone back to this simple mod...including CTS-V's, the SRT 6.1L folks, many of the Vette and Viper owners....maybe your bud-guzzling pickup buddies are on to something????

Thats cuz you only get the pleasure of hearing them on F-150s and Silverados...

Here's a 911 with a Thrush Glasspack...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWKb2kJUZjU

and an E36 M3...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWTO9sfbPtQ

I didn't feel like scowering the net for examples...but you get the picture. And I'm not saying it's the best mod for an S-Type...was making a point of finding an aggressive sounding exhaust solution without dropping $1500 on some namebrand cat-back that's just using fiberglass filled casings and calling them something fancy.

Sorry to strike a nerve with you there. I'm not a fan of rednecks either....I went to h.s. in WI....that's why I got the f**ck out of there!

2005 Jaguar S-Type R - $39,900 (obo)
Mileage: 6,900 Body Style: Sedan Exterior Color: Black Interior Color: Black

In AZ. Not that I'll be buying this one...but its good to see they're out there...and for great prices! Good thing I've overcome my impulse purchasing through years of therapy and heavy dosage of rum and bourbon!

Very late in replying, but found it interesting that I just traded a Volvo S60 for the very car you have shown in your post above. The differences are amazing. Well worth it!! I also have a bad purchase impulse problem (a guitarist with a fondness for old expensive instruments)!
