Question Considering an 04 XJ8

Hey guys! New to the world of Jaguar but hoping I'm about to make a good decision.. I'm coming out of a life long familiarity with Saabs and after 4 I've decided to try something new. Found a 2004 xj8 [ebony/charcoal<3], has something like 85k miles, for 12500. Two owner trade(lease/select preowned), I got to it before they even had time to clean it. Dealer's doing brakes (odd noise from 20-0)and a torque converter before I take delivery... Is this something I should be thankful for or is this a sign of some hideous problem to come? I'd appreciate any feedback you can give me. I'm used to high maintenance cars but I had a C-class benz bend me over after it chewed up its transmission bits.

I paid attention for any weird noises/movements from the suspension and it seemingly does everything without fault, smooth as can be... any other area's i should look out for off hand, or items I should request the dealer take care of?
I appreciate it so much as I'm still a bit of a baby (26) and my father may disown me b/c of experiences with Lucas Prince of Darkness in the 80's.

Welcome, you should check out some threads about suspension woes on Jaguar XJ8 Forum . From what I read on the forums those parts are expensive and might cost to set you back a few grands .
Good things , electronical gadgets are more reliable than in the 80's

Welcome to the Forum Mdav1, sounds like the deal has already been done. Why not ask the questions over in the XJ8 section for your year.

But if you have already made the purchase, let it be known.

I got the car last night! Emotions over logic, but I don't think I'll lose any sleep over putting money into such a beautiful car if something arises! I'll post photos when I have a moment!

Congratulations on your new Xj8 and welcome to the forum.

I'm confident that you'll be pleased with your choice. I know that I love mine.

I suggest you spend some time over in the XJ8 section. There's a wealth of info there. Looking forward to your pics.

Don't worry about Lucas - Prince of Darkness, they are long, long gone. I once worked at their research centre near Birmingham in the late 60s whilst I was a university student; I think they disappeared sometime in the late 80s or early 90s

However there are a lot of electronics, like all modern cars. These cars can run the Marathon, but do need careful maintenance at the correct intervals. I have an XJ6 of 2003 (your 2004 model year); so far, so good, in my 6 weeks of 2nd ownership.
