Default Danny Howard Sawbridgeworth.

Hello everybody, I am a new member and this is my introduction.I found this site after surfing the net looking for a spring compression tool. I am very impressed with this group and the way it is managed and signed up straight away.
My name is Danny Howard and I live in Sawbridgeworth Hertfordshire, England. I have owned my 1984 XJ6 series 3 4.2 Sovereign since 1986. I have had a worry for some time regarding the ride height. The service manual states it should be a minimum of 611mm. My car is 30mm below this measurement. I need to fit some shims beneath the springs and need the compression tool to remove the springs safely. I will now attempt to make this tool from the pictures made available to me as a new member. I will report back here with news of my progress in due course. My concern is however, the shims are 3.18mm thick and only 3 lower and 2 upper may be used. Will these be enough to raise the car by over 30mm? I will find out soon!
Kind regards, Danny.

Welcome to the forum Danny,

Twenty six years ownership - there won't be many like that around.

Follow Steve's link to the Series III section for help and advice. Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User ID button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Be very careful with those front springs. I've removed them with the genuine Jaguar tool and it's a massive amount of force involved.

Graham

Thank you Jim for manually upgrading me so quickly! I apologise for the long username, should I shorten it? I usually find that when first registering on a site and choosing a name, DRH or similar that I would use have already been taken!
I am still exploring, so much to see here! I will be an active member, no doubt.
Thanks again, Danny.

Danny,

The long user name won't be a problem as it autofills whenever another member posts a reply to you and uses the 'quote' option like I've done in this post.

Signature looks good now. Let's see a big pic of the XJ.

Graham

Danny, as per Graham, absolutely no issues with the long username at all, we're just messing with you a little

Should you decide at some point either now or later however that you wish to change it for any reason, I can help if required.

Glad you're enjoying the site
