Default fail safe on my s-type

Hello. My name is Bill. I have a 2000 S-type, black on black, V-6 Automatic. My wife and I love the car but it sits most of the time, as we hate to put miles on it. We really don't have a Jaguar bank account, so anything goes wrong, and we are in the poor house till it's fixed...We are currently experiencing the " fail safe" engine alert, and sometimes it goes into limp mode. Sometimes not. The car seems to run great, although it hates damp weather, and will miss and cough till lit warms up when it's rainy or damp outside. I don't have a clue on what to do with the fail safe notification. I don't have a scanner to check the codes. Any ideas would be great. I did try to clean the throttle body with some throttle body cleaner, and it did help for a very short time, but the fail safe came back.

Hello Bill welcome to the forum! Glad you found us.

Bummer about the 2000 S Type not running well. The best advise to start off here is go to any BIG box auto parts store and get the codes read (for free) and report back to the S Type / S Type R Supercharged section.

As Jim mentioned above there are quite a few of us that may be able to help you out if not point you in the right direction.

Welcome to the forum,

+1 on the advice above, but do get the codes read as Rick suggested, you will not be able to get useful advice without those.

I took your advise and had the codes read...P1572...brake sensor out of range...I changed the brake light switch.(gray one) Lights work...still codes...I don't know the part number for the other switch. I think its the brake cancel switch...looks the same but has a blue top...Can't seem to find any info on it...I could really use a part number and maybe a link to a parts house that might have one...hope that fixes it...

Can't help you out with the part number, but try Nalley Jaguar in Atlanta, they are forum sponsers here and Dan and Mike are great guys to deal with!

After reading up on the P1572, it does sound like you need a new (blue) Brake Cancel Switch.

Please post any techical questions in the S Type Section after this.

thank you
