The Jaguar in my life, a 2004 X-Type bought new, is actually my wife's. She allows me to drive it (which I throughly enjoy!) on our road trips now that we are both retired. I joined this forum after reading the excellent answers to the problems others have had because, even with only 45000 miles on her (the car, not my wife), she has had a TCM failure after a heavy rain here in Florida (and me with only my OBD reader). I was hoping to get some insight into the easiest way to get at the TCM ( it's tough for a 65 year old to get under that dash!) to try and clean the contacts well enough to allow us to get back home without falling into limp mode.
So, my first question, if I can't clean or replace the TCM, would I damage the transmission if I had to drive it that far (seems to be in stuck in 3rd gear ~2200 rpm at 45-50 mph).
Thanks for any insight.

Welcome Tim. Head on over the X-Type section and you'll get an answer soon enough. 2200 RPM shouldn't be hard on anything, what sort of distance are we talking here?

Welcome to the forum Tim,

Good to have you with us.
Are we talking about Florida to NY?

You should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.

Hi Tim, welcome to the board. Retirement and a Jag go very well together! I wouldn't think that 2200 RPM would be much of a strain.

It's just over 1000 miles. We're in St. Augustine and home is Amityville, NY. If I can't fix the problem myself, I will have to bite the bullet and take it to a local foreign repair shop as my wife is nervous about a major failure while on the road.
I'll be back on the forum since I prefer to do my own repairs, but my experience is mostly Fords and Chevys.
Thanks for the reply.

Yes, traveling from Florida to NY. Thanks for the advice about adding the car to my signature. I think I got it right.
