Default First time XJ8 owner

Greetings to all!

After many, many years of dreaming about Jag's I finally pulled the trigger last summer and purchased a beautiful rust-free '99 XJ8 in a gorgeous Burgundy with a low 80k on the odo (well low for a 12 year old car). As a bit of a gear head (never quite satisfied w/any car ;-), I can say with some surprise how happy I have been with the reliability, performance, and comfort thus far. There are a couple of niggles, but over all I think I will be a Jag owner for life!

So a very little something about myself: I am 35 years old, I have a wonderful wife of nearly 10 years, and I love to travel with her. We spent more than half of our marriage in the Philippines where we perform humanitarian work .. as well as build custom Jeep and Hummer replicas (well not anymore ... sigh). Currently I work in IT and live in the Cleveland Oh area. My plans are to bring the Jag up to perfect level by replacing the few things that are worn out (suspension for starters). I hope to be a productive and positive member of Jaguarforums!

Regards and Cheers to all!!!!

Josh

Hi Josh and welcome to the forum. Lucky you to find a decent XJ8. Like all cars, suspension joints do wear out, but these are not too expensive to fix on your model. On my X350 series, the next model after yours and made of aluminium, the suspension parts are rather expensive.

Do make sure to check the upper camchain tensioners have been replaced with the metal-bodied ones. Failure of these fairly cheap parts has expensive consequences !

Thank you for the warm welcome! I do need to replace upper shock bushings and all the shocks as well as the springs in the rear as they are a bit saggy. I will check the camchain tensioners on Tues. when I change the oil and fuel filter. Thanks for the recommendation!! Since you are from my fav country, may I ask sir if it is worth ordering my parts from the UK? Any recommendations on dealers?

Thanks again!

Josh
