Welcome to the forums jag smith,

As I recall the XK150 sender unit was secured to the tank with a number of setscrews and sealed with a circular rubber gasket. Presumably the XK140 is a similar arrangment?

Hello,
All sending units I've ever seen have some sort of gasket or O-ring to seal the unit against the tank.
This would be the first place I would look if this was my car.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

As important as the gasket is the copper washers need to be fresh and the mounting surface as well as the sender itself need to be flat and true. Often folks tighten down the screws hoping to stop a drip and distort the sending unit face. As the sender is under the fuel level at anything over half tank if all is not correct it will leak. Suggest you obtain new copper washers--a new gasket--drain your fuel to less than half a tank--remove the sender and inspect. Best of luck.
