Greetings All new member w/Coolant Issue
Hello All:
I am the proud new owner of a 2005 XK8 coupe in Radiance Red with 78k miles. I have noticed a strong, what smells to me like burning coolant odor, after i drive the car and park either in the garage or outside. Started to check it out and I noticed my coolant expansion tank level was very low --coolant just covering the bottom of the tank. It was troubling that a "low coolant level" warning light did not come on. What level must the coolant drop down to so this warning light comes on?
I topped off the expansion tank with orange coolant to bottom of the filler neck. After about 1 month -- the level has gone down very little maybe 1/8" to 1/16" of inch. Still have the odor.
I noticed some coolant residue around what I believe is the thermostat housing -- looks like a little orange caked/goo around what appears to be pressure membranes. Some orange goo dripped to pulley right below also.
I don't know if this residue is due to a past coolant flush or not -- before i owned the car.
the car runs great and no temp problems or low coolant lights.
Any advice on getting a handle on this would be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome to the forum jagxk82005seneca,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
Both the plastic Thermostat Housing and the Expansion Tank are regular issues on the XK8. Worth checking these out thoroughly for signs of leakage as overheating on the Jaguar V8's can be an engine killer.
Follow this link XK8 / XKR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the USA North East Region forum by following this link USA North East - ME NH VT MA RI CT NJ NY PA - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.

Hello fellow Jag lovers! I currently own at 2005 XK8 Coupe in Radiance Red and Cashmere. Previous to this car, I enjoyed driving a 1989 XJS Coupe in British Rading Green, a 2007 XK and a 2007 XJ VDP. The 2005 XK8 is by far my favorite Jag! This car combines the classic bloodlines of the XKE with modern, reliable technology -- power with elegance.
Looking forward to learning in this Forum and also contributing.
