Greetings from Bakersfield (the armpit of California)
Hello everybody,
I just took possession of a 2016 F-Type Premium V6 coupe with the 6-speed manual. It's White with the Red leather interior and has the Vision package and the 20" Black Cyclone wheels. I was hoping to get an S model for the limited slip differential, but no dice.
The car was obtained through Carvana and had only 22,500 miles. CarFax was clean and the reported maintenance history was good. I've done an inspection today with a local trusted mechanic and, by all accounts, the car is in very good condition. I still plan on taking it to the nearest Jaguar dealership for another inspection in a couple of days. Assuming all checks out, I'll be keeping the car (Carvana allows for a 7-day risk-free trial period to make inspections and decide whether to keep the car or not).
A couple of concerns I noticed, include:
The rear tires have DOT date codes of 2013.
I couldn't believe the car came with tires that were older than the actual car. To me, this means one of two things: either the previous owner who sold the car to Carvana was too broke/cheap to get appropriate replacement tires (so he bought old, used tires) or Carvana put on old, used tires to comply with the minimum tire tread depth to pass their "150 point inspection".
I'm in the process of making a claim with Carvana for them to cover the cost (or at least a portion) for new rear tires. Carvana doesn't consider wearable items like brakes and tires as appropriate for warranty claims. However, the tires are older than 10 years and--as I understand it--this is beyond the acceptable max life range that tire shops are willing to service. I'm not sure if it's even legal in California for a dealer to sell a used vehicle (even 'As-Is') to a customer with tires over 10 years of age. Hopefully, I get some new tires for free. If not, it's just an additional expense I'll have to pay for immediately.
It doesn't appear like the active exhaust valves are working appropriately
I don't hear a discernable difference when the dynamic exhaust button is engaged versus when it is not engaged. My mechanic thought he could hear a difference, but wasn't sure.
Hoping the Jaguar dealership inspection can provide more insight as to whether the valves are stuck open/closed or if the car got the new map--which, as I understand it, nerfed the lovely exhaust sounds that originally came with the car (but led to premature wear on the catalytic converters).
Other than that, the car is very nice. What a beauty! I've been lusting over this car for some time and now I finally have it (assuming no major issues are found 🤞
My plan (should I keep the car) :
Resolve the rear tires issue immediately
Perform oil change and change out the air filters (the 2 engine air filters and cabin filter) within the next 2 weeks. I was surprised to learn that the engine air filters are located underneath the car instead of the engine bay.
Perform brake fluid flush and differential oil drain and fill within the next month
Perform transmission fluid drain and fill within the next 2-3 months
Find a solution to have Android Auto as part of the infotainment. I've already been reading on various aftermarket solutions.
Install new front tires by the end of the year. The front tires are from 2019 and have tread depth of 6/32.
Perform coolant flush by end of the year
I've already watched YouTube videos and forum threads for buying guides and common problems, but any insights would be appreciated. Thanks
PS I'm a hardcore Real Madrid fan and purchasing this car on Sunday was the cherry on top of a fantastic weekend. Hala Madrid! My nephew posing with his uncle's "supercar"
