Greetings from Texas, USA
My name is Tom Howell. I am a retired computer programmer living in Richardson, TX (a northern suburb of Dallas, TX).
Back in about 2003, I bought a 1998 Jaguar VDP for my wife. She loves that old car. It sits in the garage until Friday date night and Sunday AM church. It currently has 86,000 miles; it had 40k miles when we bought it.
Until recently, the Jag had no issues except the occasional loss of a crown wheel lug nut cover, one instance of a car wash vs antenna and the famous leaking rear view mirror. Oh, yes, I forgot the headliner which I got replaced for $250, not bad at all.
Several months ago, our choice was to purchase a much newer Jag or repair the failed transmission on the '98; the cost of which represented the entire value of the automobile. We decided to fix the transmission and my wife is very happy.
It will take many years to determine if this choice was a fools ploy or a wise decision but the beauty of this old car and the enjoyment my wife has driving it provides significant leverage to the "wise decision".
I don't work on automobiles myself; I have a good and trustworthy mechanic in Garland, TX that performs all the necessary tasks. He is not a jag specialist so we talk about things that need to be done AFTER I have done research, in these forums and other sources available to me.
Personally, I am not real fond of the Jag simply because it is so hard to get into and out of. It was made for a more flexible driver, perhaps a bit shorter than myself. However, once on the road, it is a dream.
Thanks for being here, this forum is a great resource.

Welcome to the forum Tom,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
I can see you've already found your way to the X308 tech forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
Enjoy the forums.
