Default Hawaiian Cat

Aloha. Just picked up a 2001 S-type 3.0 for my wife as a new baby gift (she's due on Thanksgiving).

This is her second Jaguar. She previously had a 2001 X-type sport that she loved but we sold it when we moved out to Oahu.

I saw the S-type for sale on craigslist for $2399 with 47k original miles. After talking to the owner, it was the son of an elderly lady that loved the car but all of a sudden "the motor started shaking" and everyone told her how terrible and expensive Jaguars are to work on. She decided she just wanted to get rid of it.

I drove it around the block and the tell-tale sick/dead coils grunt of the wounded cat was apparent.

Paid the man $2200 cash, drove it home and threw a code reader on it. Coil #1 and #3 dead.

Her X-type got the full treatment of replaced coils/intake manifold gaskets etc. one afternoon so can't wait to get them all replaced on the S-type.

I'm going to do all the IMT/elbows/etc and some new 02 sensors while I'm at it so she should be cherry and ready for momma bird within the month.

Right now with the car still limping I'm just focusing on the basics oil, filters, deep clean/detail etc.

The only known real issue is the moon roof doesn't slide back. It will pop up and re-close though. Not an urgent issue though.

The only thing I'm really dreading is going through all the suspension since from what I read S-type never came from the factory with quality bushings/tie rods/etc. It looks like it's common enough though that they sell entire kits to do it all at the same time so that'll be a task for next year.

I live a few blocks from the ocean so it's very corrosive. With any luck the bolts won't be totally seized. I'll use anti-seize on anything I can get my hands on and hope to get a good life out of the Jag.

She loves how sumptuous the leather/interior is. Her X-type had all black leather but it was more BMW style sporty/rigid. This car is totally plush and with the cream leather makes her look and feel like a fancy lady.

The previous owner didn't do much TLC so the leather needs a good cleaning with a brush.

There are some nicked/cracked trim plastic trim pieces (interior driver door handle trim pocket is cracked. Cup holder chipped) but overall it's almost flawless.

Very excited. Off to go through the S-type handbook in the forums.
