New to Jaguars, I always loved the xj8 and I am looking at a 1998 it has no transmission in it, it has not ran since 2010. The car looks clean inside and out, I am a mechanic so working on it is not going to be an issue, but I was wondering about the availability of parts, also not sure of mileage at this time. I do have pictures, I am planning on going to look at it and was hoping for some advice on what to look for and maybe a ball park figure on what to pay for this car. I appreciate any input.

Your market is way different to mne, so I will stay out teh cost subject.

The tansmissions did have issues, and when the failure was rebuilt with the "newer" bits, they were deemed as OK. So if the trans is sitting nearby, include it in the discussions and rebuild with the new spec bits, and enjoy the beast.

Upper timing chain tensioners were also an issue, and a change to what is known as "full metal jacket" spec is the only way to go.

A quicky repost in the X308 section will have answers/suggestions/etc flowing quite quickly.

does anyone know what a 1998 XJ8 is worth with no transmission and not running in the last 5 years and what it might cost to get it running again, if it has no issues with the engine.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
