Default Hello! Anxious for advice

Greetings. I am an old time collector of British bikes and a few older British cars, looking to perhaps buy my first Jaguar. I have driven and admired several over the years and now find myself in the position to do something about it! Today, my wife and I had a look at a handsome but rather hackneyed 1994 XJ12 with 80k mi. And a fairly reasonable asking price of $5000. Sadly, it just did not push my buttons. Then, by hazard, I saw an advert for a 1989 XJS V-12 convertible for not a lot more which absolutely swept me off of my feet. Given that they are obviously quite different vehicles, does anyone wish to share opinions on technical, aesthetic or any other viewpoints. All contributions gratefully accepted. We are looking forward to finding the right Jaguar for our garage! Thanks in advance and thank you for hosting this website. Yours, CTD

Go to the 'XJS' section. At the top of that section is a sticky thread called "How To". Inside you'll find an XJS buyers guide that will cover some basics.

I suggest reading the guide and then posting any addt'l questions in the XJS section.

A well sorted XJS of that vintage is a dream to own and drive. Sorting one, and keeping it sorted, requires some degree of commitment but for most of us that's part of the fun....and the car will repay in more than equal measure.

As with any older Jag you should either A) have deep pockets or B) enjoy DIY repairs.

Welcome aboard

Cheers
DD

I spent some looking at the aforementioned '89 XJS convertible and speaking to a local expert. Wondering if the "warning" (if that's not too strong a term) away from the 12 in favor of the 6 resonates with people here as well. Haven't seen too many 6 cyl convertibles around this area. Q, then I haven't been looking that long either. I'm thinking I might be involved in a fairly lengthy search here! I'm guessing however that the reward will justify the effort. Thanks for the warm welcome, and thanks once again for any and all advice offered. Capt. C.
