Default Hello Everyone

Hi everyone,
I just registered for the forum after lurking for several months. I'm looking forward to actively participating since I'm the proud and slightly apprehensive owner of a '93 XJS 4.0 convertible. (see below). The car was born in the USA and spent the first 20 years of its life in Nevada. After immigrating to Canada. It was housed in a garage and only driven in summer weather. As a result, the car is completely rust-free and is in quite good condition.

I purchased it in September of 2020 and have performed some initial work (front calipers/rotors/pads), grease, oil, tran-fluid, etc with more to do.

My plan was to work my way through Grant Francis' entertaining, informative and scary pdf "XJS Post Purchase Worksheet". My goal being to drive the car in the short Canadian summers and do major tasks in the winter as quickly as my time and budget allows.

Plans have changed - The right rear caliper is slowly leaking brake fluid & needs to be fixed. I suspect that I'll need to drop the IRS to take care of this and expect I'll need to draw on the expertise of the forum members in that task since I expect that I'll need to replace the rotors, pads and rebuild the parking brake while I'm at it.

All this seems a bit intimidating and a bit beyond what I've done before. Anyway, it's a new adventure & I look forward to chatting with you and sharing my experiences as I go.
..chris

Welcome to the Forums.

Looks GOOD, even from down here.

I try to keep it light, life is too short for alternative.

With what you have done so far, you and that car will be together for a LONG time, I like the attitude to the maintaining, winner.

I do love the Flamenco red XJS for 93 (US), the last year of the "roadster" two seater (as it should have been through the finale). What a find, well done.

The XJ-S gang here is like a bunch of H-D bikers. They may act tough, but are actually very polite and helpful. They are some of the most dedicated and proudest members, and their enthusiasm is catching... just like the motorcycle guys!

No offense intended, I honestly admire their dedication to their Jaguars, and I am just a little... envious? Always a fan of the XJ-S.

Welcome, Chris.

Welcome to the forums Chris,

The XJS looks a good example. The Nevada climate has avoided any rust issues but fortunately not caused the leather and veneer damage so frequently seen on Jaguars from that region.

You have clearly already found your way to the XJS forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the Canada Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/canada-73/ to find other members in your region.

Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Thanks Grant - I lucked out - there are some nicks & small imperfections but I love the car.

Your worksheet is great and has provided a roadmap for working though what needs to get done on the xjs. I enjoy your writing style as well - laughed out loud at a few points. I appreciate your efforts in putting it together.

Thanks Richard - I feel fortunate to have found the car - although I'm sure there will be points where I wonder what I've gotten myself into. I have lurked in the forums for a few months before joining and have been really impressed with helpful and polite the members are - even when given good reasons not to be. BTW - nice photo of the Jaguar hood ornament in your pic.

Thanks Elinor, Nice XJ6 & quite an automotive stable!. I agree with you about the Datsun - never owned one but always admired them.

Thanks for the info Graham - I've updated my signature - I thought I'd done so already and didn't realize I hadn't until I submitted my post.

I'm surprised by the great welcome I've received & hope to be able to contribute as I go through the journey with this car.

Thanks for the pointers Norri - I thought I'd added my signature line but discovered I hadn't once I made my initial post - thereby contravening the guidelines in my very first post!.
