Hello from Florida
Greetings from Lakeland. First and only Jaguar, 1967 XKE conv. Trouble is, that was in 1973. Crazy then, paid $2,000 for it !! Had a very slight knock at idle, but nothing that 5 cans of STP did not quiet down, but I a engine rebuild would cost $1,000. Being only 21, and 2 years in the military, that I could not afford. So swapped it off for a ex drag car, 1957 Corvette. Got it back on the road for $250. Swapped that of for a 1972 Vette. Enough sad stories. Along the way I had a A-H 3000, and 2 Miatas. Now retired, I might have up to $30k toward again owning a Jaguar. Looks like the XK8 should fit the bill, but have "LOTS" of questions! I find the right forum to ask them.

You basically answered all my questions. I can find many 1997 to 2000 XK8s out their between $3,000 and $10,000 I took a couple, 98 and 99, out for a test drive. Both drove quite nice, but both had lots of warning lights and some interior thing were broken or would not latch on both cars. Looks tough trying to find another dependable used Jaguar for under $30. I love the original XKE Conv and coupe, but they are out of my range. I find the 2+2 some how, old looking. But if I can borrow another $30K, along with my $30 cash. With $60k a 2+2 might be in reach. Then again, I like early, pre 1967, Corvettes. There are some nice ones, though not restored as new, around $50 to $60k and would likely be less costly to maintain.
