Hello from Iowa
Hi folks,
In March of 2010, my wife decided she wanted a new-to-her car. I convinced her to buy a certified, low-mileage 2006 XJ8 to replace her '96 Nissan Maxima. After a few months of searching, we finally discovered a zircon/dove XJ8 at a Cincinnati, Ohio dealership. Problem was we were in Maryland. Putting my faith in the Jaguar name and their certification program, I contacted my local dealership in Annapolis (50 miles away) to see if they would get the car from the Ohio dealer so I could buy it from them locally. Annapolis agreed to get the car, we agreed on a deal - all site unseen. We've had the XJ8 ever since.
Over the years we've had a few interesting experiences with the car. There was the time when the radio would just stop working at random times - very difficult to diagnose but finally determined that although random, it would only occur when the engine was within a certain RPM range. The dealer service department replaced the windshield to correct the issue (embedded antenna I assume). One cold morning I started the car, moved it to another spot as it was blocking my truck, and then shut if off. It never started after that, and I had to have it towed to the dealer for service. I don't recall the specific problem, but the service manager suggested to allow the engine to run longer on cold days rather than just start it and shut if off. Luckily, both of these issues were covered under Jaguar's certified vehicle warranty.
As for me, in my spare time (I'm retired), I tinker with an old Plymouth, collect old classic rock albums, and listen to them on my late-70's era stereo. I have been known to enjoy photography, but my film cameras have sat idle for about 6 years now.
I discovered these forums just within the past few weeks as I've tried to research air suspension issues on the XJ8. Posts found here have helped immensely. I figured it was time to join.
