Default Hello from the Netherlands

Hello fellow Jaguar Forums.com members.

Although I only signed up today I have been reading the forums for several years now.

I come from the Netherlands, Amsterdam and I own a Jaguar XK8 from 1996.

I bought my first car at 17, the "wise choise", a peugeot 206 with low mileage and automatic transmission. At the time a very nice car for a young guy. However with my background I knew I could do a little better. After only 3 months, (before I even had my license) I already went searching for a jaguar.

My eye fell for a nice XK8. This was in 2008 just before the crisis started.

All the Jaguars offered in the Netherlands were expensive and with high mileage + colors not to my taste (green interiors).

I found a lovely car at export trader (website).
It was a 1996 jaguar xk8 with 1 previous owner, interior coffee (sdc), exterior black and only 38,500 miles.

It took nearly 2 months before it arrived in the port of Rotterdam and it took another month before I could drive it (taxes, plates etc etc).

Unfortunately the car hadn't been mainted that well. I drove to the "test center" to get my plates 3 times in total. 2 times I didn't get there due to engine problems.

At the time I ended up replacing:
* mirror inside was leaking
* steering pump
* blinker lights were not there in US models
* a lot of hoses
* the pump from the cooling
etc etc... many of the regular problems.

I ended up spending 19,000 euro for the car everything included. (And the car itsself was only 11,800 USD).

I really enjoyed the car, but after 6 months I needed money and I sold the car for 13,500 euro.

I sold it to a friend, he owned the car for a good year. He sold it to his nephew that also owned the car for a good 1.5 years. The nephew sold it to his best friend, who didn't own it that long and he sold it back to me again in March 2012.

The nephew of my friend ended up spending alot on the car:
* new 18 inch rims from newer model xk
* chain tensioners (only top ones)
* some body paint work
* brakes
etc etc. few thousands.

The friend of the nephew took the car to the "jaguar dealer" called Kimman in Haarlem. They ripped him off big time and he ended up spending thousands and thousands here and they didn't do a good job at all.

He was so frustrated at it not running good that he sold it back to me again with 64,000 miles.

I bought the car for 7,000 euro and I recently spend +- 5,000 euro in repairs to make it run right again.

(quicksilver exhaust, replace other chain tensioners, hoses, tires, brakes, etc etc etc, too much to name)

Long story Big history.

I will never sell the car again, that's for sure. Luckily this time I am 100% certain financially I won't have to sell it.

Some pictures (from 3-4 years ago, new ones I still need to make):

Welcome to the forum Julian,

Good to have you with us.
Nice intro, it seems like you are destined to keep this car.

If you haven't already done so you should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.
