My name is Eric and I'm a 32-year-old public educator in California. Thank you for allowing me to join this wonderful community!
I just purchased 2015 XJR L and I'm BEYOND EXCITED!!!!! In the past 12 months, I drove a Ferrari 488 GTB for about 20 miles, an Aston Martin DB11 for about 200 miles, and an F-Type R for about 7 miles.
I've driven my Toyota Camry SE for several years and it's been terrific, especially with the all of the miles that I drive. The XJR L is going to be my new daily driver and I'm going to have a difficult time not smiling incessantly as I zoom around these freeways with 550 horses!!!!!

Thank you to all of you for welcoming me to this fantastic website. I have been perusing threads for several months, but I am excited about being a member of the community.
Graham, I appreciate the guidance. I’ve been familiar with all of the resources that you shared with the exception of the US Western Region thread! Didn’t know that existed, so thank you!
To anyone and everyone who is interested, I just drove this gorgeous monster from Ottawa, Canada to San Francisco, California. That’s about 3,000 miles. And…………
HOLY SMOKES!!! I AM STILL ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY!!! This vehicle just glides so effortlessly and then whenever I want to punch it, WOWWWWW!!!!! UNREAL!!!!! I AM ECSTATIC BEYOND DESCRIPTION.
I just got it cleaned thoroughly, which was much needed after driving such a great distance. It looks just like it did when I was handed the keys.

Eric,
I always like to read about extended trips. We've had a few members do east/west across the US and north/south on the east coast but I can't recall reports of any doing north/south on the west coast. Everyone finds, whatever Jaguar model, it's what the vehicles were made for and they eat up the miles with ease.
We have 39 million vehicles on the roads in the UK (California is 66% larger in area) so empty roads to use the performance are rare and I've always enjoyed extended trips across Continental Europe. It's 2000 miles from my home in the north of England to the Mediterranean coast of southern Spain which gives me an appreciation of your undertaking the Ottawa to SF trip.
Yes, it was truly incredible!!!!! Covering that much territory in three days of driving was insane!!! It went by sooooo quickly and it was such a blassssst!!! =) Oh, you want to know something wild? I was unable to get any type of temporary plates or tags from anyone, even though I tried several times due to my concerns about being pulled over, and I never got pulled over! Not once in 3,000 miles, across two countries and nine states!!! Still can't believe it. One of my basketball referee buddies lives in London, and I have a general idea of how packed the roads can be, but I didn't realize that there aren't freeways in various areas like over here in Northern California. Thanks for taking the time to reply! I could not be happier with my new vehicle........ =D

We have Motorways (2, 3 or sometimes 4 lanes) but for obvious reasons these are not described as Freeways.
This is the M25 London Orbital Motorway at the Heathrow Airport junction. Traffic cameras used to enforce variable speed limits displayed on the overhead gantries.
That picture is funny, but there are plenty of freeways over here that can look like that any a given time. Do the speed displays result in actual tickets or issues? Are they located on a lot of your motorways or just in some popular areas like by Heathrow?
If you are ever in California, Interstate-5 has many, many safe stretches that are flat and wide. If you are ever in Northern California, please keep in mind that Highway 280 is the best open road that I've ever been on: it's very well maintained, it doesn't get congested like most of the freeways around here, and it's surrounded by beautiful scenery. I took this photo when I was on 280 yesterday. =)
Sorry to see those 2 vehicles crowding the road ahead of you. Not only that but having to put up with sunshine too!
Our roads are plagued with 'safety' (speed) cameras and not just on motorways. Breaking the limit results in a fine and 3 points on your licence. 12 points within 3 years results in a 6 month ban. We also have red light cameras for traffic lights and more cameras for bus lanes. Another source of revenue for local and central government.
Yeah, it was a tough stretch..... LOL! Seriously though, I'm very fortunate to have that freeway as my daily commute route.
Dang!!! That's a bummer. Ok, so, how far do you have to drive (kilometers or miles) to reach an area of open road where you can really punch it and not worry about cameras or hidden spots for law enforcement vehicles? I hope you get to take your two sweet rides out to such locations at least somewhat often! =)
I live in the only county in England with no fixed speed cameras but they do deploy mobile ones without warning. To enjoy the performance of the XK, I have to cross to France and it's 290 miles from home to the Channel Tunnel. They also have cameras in France (nowhere near as many) but it's only a fine and no points on the driving licence. Same with Spain.
Gotcha, gotcha. Well, at least it’s not terrrrribly far! So, I guess I’m pretty fortunate in this regard, living where there are no radar enforced speed limits. I never knew about the omnipresence of such tools in other countries. =/
Most miles that I drive are at a smooth clip just above the speed limit and with many, many car lengths ahead of me. However, I know about a lot of pockets on these highways where there are no places for law enforcement to hide and the road is in great shape, allowing me to punch it. =)
I’m truly so thrilled to now own this vehicle and I can’t wait to pick up various friends and referee partners in it. Less than ten people in my life know that I purchased this XJR L. During the last furlong of my 3,000 mile trip, I was able to pick up a couple of my teacher homies in Sacramento, who I taught with for over five years. They were blown away!!! =) We went from about 60 to over 120 in the blink of an eye.
