Default Hi All

Hi

Been interested in clasic cars for a while and have a few:
Nsu prinz
Rover 12 unrestored as yet
3 Scimiters
Citreon based kit car a Lomax a 4 wheeled version.

Always fancied a Jag so when the opportunity came round to buy i couldnt resist, I will say this though its a long road ahead regards restoring. the Jag i got was a 1954 Stype 3.8, the previous owner had took the old original front wings off and replaced them for fibre glass Mk2 wings however i have managed to acquire 2 new original Jaguar front wings for the S type and also original doors and sills. so Hence a long road ahead.

Can some tell me what makes an S type into the S type MOD??

Thanks and hopefully if I can work out how i will put some pictures up of the resto as we go.

Welcome to the forum Alistair,

That's quite a challenge you've taken on but worthwhile on beautiful early Jaguars.

I see you've already found your way around here so no need for links.

That'll be a 1964 S-Type you have? The 1964 S-Type was a combination of the MKII front end and the Mark X rear with the options of 3.4 or 3.8 litre engine. It was the forerunner of the 420G.

Good luck and enjoy the forum.

Graham

Welcome to the forum Alastair,

Good to have you with us.
I believe that the MOD stands for "manual with overdrive".
Enjoy the forum.

If you haven't done so already you should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.

yes a 1964 I miss keyed and entered 1954 instead. There was a difference in the front ends though regards the head lamps am i correct. the MK2 didnt have the little eyelid type headlamps however the S type had??

But again what gave it the the classification on some models MOD.

Thank you Norri. I was replying just as you posted so that clears that up. Would you happen to know any links which shows you how to remove the black vinyl or complete webasto roof so i can have the car fully reprayed. If you do it would be great.

Thanks

Alistair,

After the joys of a leaking Webasto Folding SunRoof on a Series I XJ6, I vowed never to have another!

Your question reminded me that the construction was more like old fashioned fabric bodied coachbuilding in design and the installation is much the same regardless of the vehicle.

This link has a fully illustrated guide to removal and replacement on a Scimitar - a model with which you will be familiar!

Scimitar Webasto Sunroof

The installation in your S-Type should be much the same.
