Hi everyone
Hi to everyone here,
finally started to do the preparation work before my 1966 mark 2 heads off to the panel shop for a new paint.
All the chrome , lights and rubber are off in readiness.
The wood trim is all waiting to go back in the car.
I have rust under the grill and in a few small typical areas which I hope will be easy to rectify.
The paint(gun metal grey ) is shot so it will need a total strip down. Any preferences on the various methods available - paint stripper vs sand blasting?
What I find remarkable about this car is how reliable it is. I have had it for about 12 years - infrequent use and sitting out in the elements but starts first go every time , pulls well , does not smoke and runs smooth.
The guy I bought it from serviced it regularly but the paint has not been touched since new. I think it is as original as it can be . I love and enjoy driving my jags , tinker as much as I dare but have no skills to tackle big jobs.
The information here has been invaluable, I have visited in years past but only just joined.
I also have a 2014 XF (my daily drive) , a Daimler series 2 double six vanden plas (future project?scares me) and an XJ6 complete but mostly for parts. My heart is with the Mark2 which I have adored and wanted since I was a boy.
