Hi, New Member - Western New York
My name is Jim and I am a new member from the Western New York / Buffalo area. Just getting back into being a Jaguar owner after many years of dabbling in other marques and other collections. My first car was a 1961 Mk II Jaguar that I purchased for $100 in 1967. Since that time I have had a Mk VII and other sedans, an E-type and too many other British cars to include here. I was one of the original members of Jag-Buffalo, our local Jaguar of North America Club.
The ever increasing cost of purchase and parts had kept me away from owning a Jaguar for a while but recently I decided that I wanted to try my hand at an XK8. I found one locally after researching the cars and watching the prices on Ebay. Very pleased with the car so far and it continues to amaze me how solid it is and what a nice ride it provides.
I knew going in that I would have some repairs to make and I have been utilizing this website extensively to bring me up to date and assist in repairs. I have been surprised by how many of my questions already had been answered and actually so far, I hadn’t needed to post a question. I decided today that I had a few minutes and should officially join as a new member.
I just ordered front suspension parts today and will be replacing everything within a week or so.
This is the first “old” car that I have ever owned that has an OBD and I purchased my own code reader which has proved to be indispensable with this car. One of the first codes that came up was for a bad coil. I purchased all new ones and plugs and after an easy replacement, the codes were gone.
Thanks to all of the highly knowledgeable members who I see posting technical info on a regular basis. Those of us who need a quick answer or at least a direction to go in, really appreciate it.
i know that I will have more challenges ahead and always try to take care of them myself before going to my local mechanic who, BTW, is great and a real Jaguar guy himself.

Welcome to the forums Jim,
Good to have you with us and thank you for a splendid Intro post.
I can see you've already found your way to the XK8/XKR forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also use the US Northeast Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/ to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.
Graham
