Howdy
First visit here, but I'm not a Jag newb - bought a 2000 XJ8 new as christmas present for my wife - we both absolutely loved that car. Put 120,000 miles on it until a kid with a learner's permit totaled it for us a few weeks ago. In that past 10 years I have learned a lot about the weaknesses and special quirks of the X308.
Now that we have started looking for a replacement, we expanded out possible list to other luxury brands. I won't suck up the instant depreciation of buying a new lux vehicle again, but can't accept going back to the trash of the masses. Anyway, after looking at Lincolns, Lexi, etc., we have both decided we must have another XJ. Wanted to be able to consider the S-Type, since there are so many more of them available on the used market, but at 6'5", those cars are just a joke to me.
Based on my own experience and what I have learned from my mechanic, I won't even consider any pre-2002 X308 that has not had the engine fixed (chain guides) and transmission replaced. But more to the point, I have become very impressed with the extra room and added amenities of the X350, so that is what we are focused on. Planning on buying a 2004 - 2007 XJ8 when we find the right one.
I'll poke around here on the site and see if it looks like I might fit in . . .

Another welcome from me Goose, i applaud your 'informed' decision, and think the 04+ XJs are pretty sweet. I've often considered a 2nd car, in the 05-06 range, VDP, super V8, or an XJR.
My mechanic recommended i avoid the 04s, they're very twitchy he said and he sees more 04s than all the other 05-09s combined. Just sayin..
