Jack here, Dallas area. First time poster, long time reader. I am a database architect and and recovering car accumulator I am sure that you can relate.

Sold my Cobra replica (500 horse Roush) and '97 Dodge Cummins, then traded my '02 Jag XJR yesterday for the new car - 2002 Jag XKR 100. Turned three cars into one.

XKR is in excellent condition with a good story. Black, black, one owner, local car, 53k miles, and all the 100 goodies - grey wood, aluminum trim and pedals, leather Momo, upgrade leather seats, red badging, 20" BBS Montreals, Brembos.

Used the VIN to search public records. Found the original owner's name and address. Since his obituary mentioned that he was a financial advisor at a Dallas firm for 20 years, I assumed the car was local. Called Jaguar of Plano, but they didn't recognize the car.

Went down to see the car, found the original window sticker in the docs, and viola - there it was. Sold from Overseas Motors, a former local Jag dealer, cost almost $100k even.

Plano did confirm the build date of the motor for me, Nov of 2001, meaning it has the third gen chain tensioners (thanks for the info, all).

This is my third Jag. First one was a 1993 xj6, long ago. BRG / biscuit. Pristine, but I just wasn't ready for that car. It was cool, I was rowdy. We parted friends.

Next Jag was the one I traded yesterday - 2002 XJR, 90k miles. Black, black. Loved that car, reliable, fast, cool, comfortable, friendly. Chicks digged it, but it just wasn't cutting the mustard as a midlife crisis cruiser.

So, I traded it for - if you can believe it - 2002 XKR 100, black, black. Same year, same drivetrain, same color combo. I think I am stuck in a loop here. I think I am stuck in a loop here.

I worked with more from the Fort Worth location before Mr Fisher sold the franchise and then retired.

Thanks all. Let the fun begin. So far, I have discovered a missing wheel cap, broken the part load breather clip, changed the oil, decided I need a more presentable exhaust sound, and found out exactly what 13MPG on premium means to the wallet.

Finally stopped raining here, so will try to post pics someday.

I drove a 1981(?) MB 240D auto in high school. It's true what they say - the throttle is like a light switch. You either are idling, or have it floored. There really is no in-between. Painfully slow, but a rock of a car.

Owned a 73 Mercedes 280 in college. Purple. That was when I learned why you better be prepared for German car repairs - those $500 ignition transducers sting!

Owned a creampuff 93 300d diesel more recently. Great car, except the turbo was vacuum actuated (you know how Mercedes is about that) and was always a PITA to keep working. Especially after I broke it. Oops. But, the W124 is and was a classic car. Very nice, very comfortable. They got it right.

Drove an Alpina BMW 635CSi in a former job, which was a sweet, sweet car. Exhaust note like a chainsaw.

Favorite German car I ever had was a driver from that job - IIRC, it was a 1975(?) MB 250. Little old lady car, a beige creampuff with ivory leather. Just a solid, nicely built example of a garage queen, back when MB built them right - wood, chrome, solid seats, simple to work on. Loved that car, tried to buy it but didn't have the dough. Reminded me of when cars were a symbol of engineering and craftsmanship instead of a sea of plastic. Always cheerful and friendly to drive.

Dad had a 1980 500SEL Euro, greymarket import, very fast for the time. Had a fridge inbetween the seats. My brother and I used to stick german flags in the hood seam and drive it around pretending like we were from the German embassy. It's fun being a teenager.

Oh yeah - called Dallas Jag today, they purchased the original dealer. The car was dealer serviced, they have the records. Home run car Now, how to get them to give me those records...

 

Call up and ask to speak to the service advisor and ask them straight out,the worst they can say is no, right?

Jeesh, tell them you intend to use them in future for service work, any warranty work, bodywork as required etc etc.

I can't see any issue as to why they wouldn't play ball, perhaps its a little different over there?

Called Dallas Jag and asked them about the car. Apparently the guy serviced it there - last seen in Jan for the 50k. Score!

Went down there after work. Great place - Bentley / Maserati / Jag / McLaren dealer. Had an F1 car in the showroom, a bunch of new Bentleys hanging around out back, and an honest-to-goodness concierge. He said they could print the records for me today.

I think they are reluctant to talk about these things due to privacy issues with their client base. I am a database architect for CVS and can relate - we have strict rules relating to data security and privacy.

So, it might be time for me to attempt my very first bribe. I think you fold the money up and hand it to them in a handshake, right?
