Default Howdy. Possibly purchasing a 1993 Jaguar XJ6 - Vandenplas Model

Hi everyone,

I'm here to empower m'self and not end up in over my head in looking at a 1993 Jaguar XJ6 - Vandenplas Model.

This would be my very first used car purchase.

The car is being sold for $3000 and I have a time set to meet with the owner. In addition to the usual used car questions (Top 10 Questions To Ask When Buying a Used Car from a Private Seller) I'm wondering

- Where I should look for a good Jag mechanic to inspect it

- Are there any specific questions for this make/model that I should be asking?

Hoping that I'm not in over my head to be considering this car. It's really lovely, though! Excited to learn more.

Welcome to the forum liliputian12,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

With any Jaguar, a complete service history is essential and gaps should be questioned. You should also consider who will maintain the vehicle. If it is to be with professional help, this can be costly. If you intend to do your own maintenance and repairs, all the necessary information and help is available on the forum.

As Jaguar used XJ6 for so many models from 1968 through to 1997, dealers and the forum use the factory designation XJ40 for the model you are considering. Follow this link XJ40 - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XJ40 forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

You can also visit the US Southwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...z-tx-nm-ok-37/
to find other members in your region. Members there should have information on mechanics in the Austin area who could do an inspection for you.

Enjoy the forums.

This is why I love the internet.

Thanks very much for the reply. I'm speaking to the owner by phone before committing to a test drive this weekend and will use the form link you recommended w my questions.

Trying not to get too excited just yet!
