Angry I am NEW and lost with what to do

Good Morning,

I hope someone can guide me. My daughter has a 2017 Jaguar XF (I think that's the one) and she lost her Key Fob - The alarm is set and there is no way to get into the car. We had it towed to the Jaguar dealership to get a new key and they are telling us because we do not have the key that they can not disable the alarm therefore can not reprogram a new key without replacing some module which costs $3500 - Is this possible? I can understand $600 for a new key, but this is crazy. Any advice? We don't have that kind of money and my daughter is a single mom. I need to know if this is the only option. Thank you for your help!

Welcome to the forum karenztyme,

118 Views but 0 Replies as I write this. Everyone is probably thinking the same as me that there isn't any good news or quick fix to give you on this one.

Think about it - if you only had to get into the vehicle and connect diagnostics to get past the alarm then anyone could steal it. Jaguar have deliberately made this extremely difficult.

I presume the dealer is talking about replacing the security system control module, programming it to the vehicle and supplying a replacement remote? Jaguar Dealers aren't allowed to fit used modules BUT you may find an independent who can do this. Still not goinjg to be low cost but it will be considerably less than a new module from Jaguar.

Default Thank you

Thank you for your response Graham. Yes. Makes sense. Just so hard to accept the extreme amount of money they are charging. Not sure what I’m going to do. Maybe her car insurance will cover part of it.

Welcome to the Forums.

Not a good scenario at all.

Good luck.

I hope it does.

One of the most regular questions on the forum is from new members wanting to know how to get a second key fob simply because the consequences of losing an only one can be, as you have found, so catastrophic and costly. As you go through the process, it's a good plan to get two fobs. The additional cost of getting them at the same time will only be that of the second fob but if you go back at a later time to get one, there will be a second programming charge to pay.
