Default i'm back!

my first attempt with an xjs was ill-fated, rotted from the inside out, and well above my skill and time available for a true restoration.

but of course i didn't let keep me down. i've just picked up my second xjs and am absolutely thrilled!

a 1991 green XJS V12, classic collection. drove it back from florida, and arrived in chilly ny a few hours ago. i'll detail the saga over on the xjs board if anyone is interested. the car has a great history.

thanks to all of the help everyone has already been on this forum.

To add vehicle details to your Signature, go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar (circled in red in the following pic), then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature (arrowed in red in the following pic)and enter the details.

Hey Scientist, glad you made the trip back safely to NY. I gotta ask, though. Is there really nowhere to park your vehicle unless you pay dearly for a garage space?; no doubt striped to get the most # of cars in there, leaving little room for door opening. Am I off base here? Never been to NYC myself.

Welcome back! I also have returned after a similar experience. The XJ6 I picked up was way too rusty to work with every time I tried to do rust removal I just found more and more rust everywhere lol hopefully I will have better luck with the XJ12 I just picked up! Your car looks good!

parking is rather scares here in NYC. there are no homes with driveways in the city itself.....so you're stuck with parking garages or street parking.

The problem with street parking is that they clean the streets once or twice a week.......which means 2 days out of the week...between X time to Y time...you cant be parked on that side of the street in that time period. the times and days are all different between the streets.......sometimes it could be like Wed and Fri 8-10am.....or Mon and Tues - 11am to 1pm.

It gets really annoying because the night before you need to find a parking spot on a block that doesnt have a cleaning day coming up......which ends up taking.....no joke.....HOURS. When I lived in the city, it was a huge issue and i gave up after 3 weeks and started paying for parking.

I ended up moving to brooklyn....where parking is slightly less of an issue. thankfully I have a driveway so dont have parking issues.

thanks for the notes, and for finding the signature function.

addict has it about right with regard to on-street parking. its around, and tedious to find, and leaves one open to the bumper dings and nicks, but you can leave a car sometimes a 5-7 days without having to move it, depending on the obscure holidays that pop up. also, with the boat-prow-esque bumper on the pre-facelift xjs, i'm a bit more insulated from bumper dings than more modern cars with painted plastic bumpers.

also, what is "striped" parking? i can't really even think of a garage in manhattan where they let you park your car yourself. most garages have elevator systems where they lift the cars to the upper floors and then pack them in like sardines, sometimes including lifts on each floor, to stack the cars on top of one another.

biggest issue i've experienced with that operation, is the fact that the elevators are electrically operated, so when the power goes out (ugh, hurricaine sandy), you can't get out of there, if you wanted.
