Default I'm finally in.

Well I've been lurking around here for a while gathering valuable hints and info.
Been looking for a 3.8 Mk2 manual since before Xmas and was losing hope that there were any good ones to be had in OZ.
The good news is I've found a 61 model that I'm happy with.
She's not perfect, but looks presentable and drives OK. A few upgrades have been performed over the years (Front seats, AC, XJ6 Front brakes, Syncro box, paint, electric power steering.)
I pick her up in a couple of days and then the fun will start.
The first thing that needs replacing is the Felt? edge trim around the door openings.
A source for this would be appreciated.
Then I'll start on the chrome.

Welcome to the forum Hawken,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums and congratulations on finding a good MkII. Photos essential!

You lurking probably means you don't need a link to the tech section but if you do, follow this link MKI / MKII S type 240 340 & Daimler - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the MKI/MKII forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

I can see you've already found the Regional forum so no need for a link.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Default The drive Home

Thanks for the welcome guys.
Picked up my car today and she ran well on the 2.5 hr drive home.
Discover a few issues on the way home (fuel gauge only reads to half, Tacho wont go past 3 grand, clock doesn't work.) the only one that really concerns me at the moment is the brakes hold a little when you release the pedal?
Oh well, it is a 50 year old car. Gives me something to do on the weekend.

Absolutely beautiful. A "real" Jaguar and with chrome wires.

Default Welcome Hawken

Welcome Hawken ... and belated greetings from north of the border ...

What a cracker you have landed in that 3.8L Mk2. If you want a pic of her sister, check out my albums ... this one maroon, engine bored to 4.0L with an E-Type gold head/cams/3x2" SUs ... but otherwise a twin sister right down to those CWWs.

Plenty of help and resources near at hand. Try JagDaim for that door seal ... they are good on their range of parts; great on their service; and often very fair and reasonable on price. No; I have no association with them other than as a satisfied customer over many years. Word of warning though .... don't skimp on your order. Ordered as one piece for all your openings, you will avoid colour mismatches that can occur from roll to roll.

Plenty of expert help and resources over in the model specific section.
Best wishes and a hearty welcome,
Ken

Nice.......
I went all the way to Hervey bay to look at one the same colour as yours. (Unfortunately It was a basket case.)

We went for our first Sunday run yesterday. Driving a classic around is a much different experience. Other drivers of old cars and bikes giving a wave, kids pointing, etc. Puts a smile on your face, and Didn't miss a beat.
I was a little surprised about it's taste for petrol. I'd forgotten how inefficient cars used to be.

Aaah, another bitten by the bug ...

Hey, got a minute? Drop over to the Aussie regional sections and say "Hi" to all of us in your own backyard. As you can imagine, we tend to be a fairly laid back, first name bunch. Neil [Gippsland] and others across Victoria are a friendly crew and will be pleased to make contact. I guess you may know already of parts suppliers like JagDaim, but far more local resources and expertise than you might first realize.

Anyway, warm welcome and congratulations for preserving such a gorgeous classic.
Best wishes,
Ken
