Hello! I live in southern Indiana and joined your site because I have been given the opportunity to purchase a 2004 Jaguar XJ8 with 80,000 miles on it. it has a Rebuilt title on it and the bumper has been damaged and it not on the car. Also the car has an unknown air suspension problem (I am told the pump works) and that it would be the most expensive part to replace.... it is not drivable because of this issue. I am told it is probably just an air leak and would be easy to fix.. My concern is that if that were true why doesn't the seller just fix that so the car would be drivable. The price of the car is $2000.00. I consulted your site to get info the suspension problem before going to look at it. My father knows the guy with the car and has told me you can't go wrong on this car you can't go wrong.... I am really on the fence about it so I am asking all of you the people who drive the cars and love them your opinion on buying the car or even driving an hour to look at it with a car hauler... Any advice is appreciated!!

I would also wonder if the suspension is so easy to fix why doesn't he do it? It would be a good idea to ask members in the XJ8 section what they think. Someone will be along shortly to direct you there.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

I think you are right to be on the fence. You cant really tell what youre getting with rebuilt titles. I wonder if it was fixed and then hit again. In any case a bumper isn't a deal breaker- there should be any number of good used ones available. The suspension- I am not familiar with the system At All. Don't have one, never did. But even if it is "just an air leak" the hose could very well be a molded/ formed/ hydraulic style heavy duty deal which could be a bit of a project to find. It is possible that the owner has just reached his point of exit with the car, and that the problems are really minor. The previous owner of my Roger had obviously got there because of several niggling yet easy fixes that were needed. I think that is the only way anyone ever re-homes a vehicle. But at the same time some people will put up with a lot more than others. I think $2000 could be a very good price, but you should certainly not go see it having mentally "pre-bought" it. Be ready to say no and wait for a better one. They are out there.
