Intro and thank you.
Hello, My name Martin, 54 years old. First Jaguar 2005 s-type VDP, 40k miles, Looked and drove like new. bought in 2010. Loved it. got T-boned by jeep. Needs more than a reapir but will become a project or parts car.
I replaced it with a 2005 STR 80k miles. Looked good but I noticed some minor issues. It checked out at the the dealership then looking for a coolant leak and changing the oil I started noticing things. Random fasteners, missing fasteners, mis-routed wiring and hoses, broken retaining tabs. Thanks to the questions and answers here I have been able to keep it going. The shop repair manual CD and obd 2 interface with my laptop have helped as well.
I plan to garage it when the snow flies and do some major work. I would like to contribute and help others as you have helped me.
I will of course need alot of technical advice and would like to document the learning experience with photos and video for others to view.
I do have machine shop and fabrication experience, rebuilt a couple of dodge 318s when I was a kid (20s) and turned wrenches in hydraulic assembly shops and repair shops for years.
I would never attemt this without a support group like the one you have for each other.
I like this car! the size, the power, the features offered, and the safety of 2 tons of steel and airbags that saved my son from injury. This is a perfict daily driver for me and these first 2 won't be my last. My fleet is complete now. Aside from the jag I own 97 GMC 4x4 extended cab, a 97 Land Rover disco, a 2004 Dodge mini van, and a 2006 Triumph 900 Bonneville.
Thank you again.

Hello Martin welcome to the forums.
Bummer about the accident, but hey look at what you replaced it with. As noted lots of valuable information found in the "How To" thread in the S Type section.
Good luck with her and keep us posted as you wrench on stuff. Possibly post pics as you go(?).
Enjoy all the site has to offer!

Welcome to the forum Martin,
Great Intro. You've had a torrid time with the S-Types. Good to hear no one was injured in the T bone incident.
Sounds like you already know your way around here but if not, follow this link S-Type / S type R Supercharged V8 - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the S-Type section for help, advice and information.
You can also visit the US Northwest Region section by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/northwest-washington-oregon-idaho-sw-canadians-64/ to find other members in your region.
Good luck with the STR repairs. Looking forward to seeing pics and video.

Thank you for the welcomes. The snow flies soon o I'm driving to get all my base lines and final enjoyment for the fall driving season. I have one question, are the s'types of the same year equiped with standard wiring harnesses? The Damaged VDP has more options and would like to add to STR? Thanks again. Martin. Will take a pick or 2 of STR and post tonight.
Martin,
I've had a look at the Parts Manual hoping to be able to confirm an identical harness is used throughout. It's usual for Jaguar to use the same harness on all models in a range to reduce manufacturing costs.
Unfortunately the Parts Manual indicates two factors to take into account with the S-Type.
The first is a change at VIN N52048

This is possibly a design change although it could just be a change of supplier.
Secondly, a number of different main harnesses are listed depending on LHD or RHD (to be expected and not an issue for you) AND also depending on equipment options.
This will affect your plans and means you may find the STR lacks some of the wiring for the VDP options you want to transfer.
You should take this question to the S-Type tech section to see if any members have direct experience of adding Jaguar options to their STR's.

I just want to admit I know it is my fault for puchasing this STR in haste. Though it checked out at the dealership they do not have the combined knowledge and checks/balances this forum has. I have found that as in the case of doctors sometimes I get only the information I request and not all the information that they have found. I feel I should have been informed of the inconsistant fasteners and routing of the wire harnesses. It would have been a clear indication to me to look into the car closer before the purchase. On the brite side, If the car had no problems I wouldn't have been introduced to this forum. Thank you again and I'll keep you posted. I hope to become an asset to your forum, helping others with information, photos, and vids.
