Default Introduction

Hi all -
I'm a first time Jaguar owner and new member to the forum. Basically a friend was trying to unload his 83 XJ6 Vanden Plas and it more or less fell into my lap. I had looked at other used cars but I was charmed by the XJ6 so here I am - you can see from the images she's a heartbreaker. I live in NYC with good street parking and I have a garage at work in Queens where I can keep the car in bad weather, but I definitely need some expert advise and a good mechanic preferably nearby. The car was cheap enough, but after new tires, new battery, alternator rebuilt, master brake cylinder replaced (was leaking), a replaced relay for the head lamps, I am nervous to spend much more! That said I have been having a lovely time - getting out of town on the weekends, driving to the beach, and cut an hour out of my commute I have a few issues that it would be great to get some feedback on (I'll post in XJ6 section) - I probably should have posted this intro before I needed the feedback.. Many thanks!

Welcome to the forum laneevr,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

You've thrown a few $$ at the VdP already but the remaining items detailed in your other post don't look too seriously costly to fix.

I can see you've already found your way to the XJ6 Series III tech section so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

You can also visit the US North East Region forum by following this link North East US - ME NH VT MA RI CT NJ NY PA - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

Enjoy the forums.

hey there lanever.

if youre in manhattan, XJR auto over on 37th street might be an option for you.

while they're not the cheapest in town (i think i remember ~80/hr) raj knows his way around 80's jaguars. he has quickly ID'd and fixed a few small problems with my V12 XJS.

hope to see you around town!
