Introduction
I'm Mike, an old fart living in Laguna Woods, CA. I have a 2010 Jaguar XF with 113,000 miles, which I would like to drive until one of us goes to heaven (or car heaven.) For the first time, I'm having transmission problems and wonder if the shop that works with Jaguars is being honest with me and/or overcharging me. (Initially told that the "computer" wasn't communicating with the transmission to change gears. Replaced for over $4,000. Within 48 hours, the same problems recurred - slow shifting, slippage, staying in higher gear, changing gears with s "clunk." Then told that transmission itself needs to be replaced for over $2,000 with a "big discount." When I questioned how two things could occur at once, I was told that it wasn't unusual and that, anyway, if they had to replace the transmission, they would also have to replace the "computer" which we already did." Still waiting for arrival of rebuilt transmission.) I originally posted the info on x260, but was told I needed to post on x250, which I'm trying to figure out how to do. Thanks - Mike

Ask the transmission shop for the DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) that led them to the conclusion the "computer" wasn't communicating with the transmission to change gears and post the codes here. They could be right BUT at $6000, I'm sure you'd want to be convinced.

Thanks, Norri. I'm obviously a newbie trying to learn and benefit from the forum experts. The latest info - the shop is telling me that after they test drive the rebuilt transmission they installed, I can pick up the car, UNLESS I also want them to fix the "Tire pressure system fault." When I asked what that would cost, they told me I needed a new sensor module ($450) and up to four tire sensors. I had the same warning a few years ago, and a different shop replaced one sensor for about $70 - $80 and solved the problem. I have a very bad feeling about all of this. I appreciate your message. The non-replaceable batteries in the TPMS sensors typically last about five years then the sensor needs replacing. Although module failures have been reported, warning messages are usually only due to one or more of the sensors. They could be right or it could just be "lazy" diagnosis and a big bill because they think you are not likely to question it.
