Jaguar testing on the Bonneville Salt Flats Utah?
Bonneville Salt Flats Jaguar testing? Any info?I bought my 1999 XJR Super V* from a UK dealer Guy Salmon of Thames Ditton, West London. I had to choose between a silver one with DVD screens previously owned by top footballer Alan Shearer, or a pacific blue one with 18,500 miles on that had every current extra inc. electric sunroof, sensor wipers, rear sun blinds etc. I choose the latter but it had a very worn steering rack, which the had to replace under warranty. (This should have sent warning signals!). A very observant salesman at our local dealer who had not been able to find me a Jaguar I liked, asked if the "V" plate was original, because that made it 1999.
But the car was fitted with 2000 Model Brembo brakes, so four months before they were fitted.
I then discovered this was probably a Test car", taken off they assembly line, sipped to the US, and raced at Bonneville to test prototype brakes, before passing all tests and fitted to future jaguars.
At 40k miles, i had to have new discs fitted. the mechanic told me that i raced that car. Not true I said.. Its the only way they could be almost melted! I then contacted jaguar gave them the Vin no and they confirmed they owned it for the first 18.500 miles, but would not admit or deny that car had been raced at Utah!
At 110k I had to fit new front wings due to salt erosion, that probably came from Utah!
So if you are pleased with your Brembo brakes, thank my car!
Has anyone got photos of a pacific Blue XJR V8 Supercharged being raced at Bonneville in 1999. please?
