Default Jaguar xj6 x300 suddenly lost oil pressure and is making nocking noise

Hi all, I was driving my jag this morning and it was driving as well as usual then suddenly the oil light came on and the oil pressure dropped to zero, a few seconds after the engine started to make a knocking noise from the front, does anyone know what this could be??

Any help would be appreciated..

Hello, James,

The oil light and pressure gauge are there to notify you, that if the light comes on and gauge reads zero, SHUT OFF THE ENGINE **IMMEDIATELY!**

For some reason yet to be determined your engine ran out of internal lubrication. That's usually fatal depending how long you drove it after it started knocking.

First check oil level, and if there seems to be plenty, then perhaps the pump failed.

Someone will be along shortly to direct you to the correct section where you can find help.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum James,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

There's several possibilities - none of which are good news. Zero oil pressure will rapidly destroy an engine.

Follow this link XJ XJ6 / XJR6 ( X300 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X300 forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link UK & Eire - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Welcome.

As said, many reasons, but I am heading to an oil pump drive chain has died, NOT COMMON, and the fact its already knocking, fatal is a polite word.
