Just bought a 1995 XJR...
Hello from the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia!
Hi - thanks for letting me be a part of your great and powerful community! I just bought a 1995 XJR from a buddy at work for my wife for her 58th birthday - she loves it already from the photo!
Question: it had a recent oil change but the fellow didn't change the air filter (!). I've looked at filters on the Internet (they're cheap) but none of the owners' manuals that came with the car show how to change the filter or where it is even - or if I need any special tool(s) to do the job. The car is parked temporarily in Edmonton and my wife is flying there in a week to meet me and drive it home. I'd like to change the air filter then - any help would be appreciated. I'm unable to find any photos of my motor online either (inline 4l supercharged six)...is this motor a secret?!
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum.
Good to see you.
LOL, no secret, look into the XJR section, but if it is anything like it's older XJ40 sibling, it is only a question of unclipping the filter box cover.

Welcome Alf,
+1 to Richard's advice. Check the FAQ's at the top of the threads in the XJR https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ck-link-20088/ section.
No special tools required to remove the spring clips on the aircleaner box cover.
Enjoy the drive home.

Hey - made it home with my new beast, very nice drive through the mountains (Jasper to Kamloops and a beautiful sunny day). Even with the stress of the Engine Service light on the entire time and the oil pressure dropping from '4' to '2' (and to '0' when stopped at a light, causing the oil can "idiot" light to come on!). No change in water temp though, which I think would indicate serious engine difficulties.
SO...my next trip is to a Jaguar mechanic (not a dealer but a reputable Jagster Wrenchmaster) in Vernon. Can anyone in this wonderful forum please shed some light on particularly the oil pressure issue (again: 1995 XJR 4.0l Supercharged - 65,000 kms). Is it possible that the fault is with the sending unit for the gauge? If not - how difficult/expensive is it to replace the oil pump (I must assume that the pump is inside the motor - drop the pan after lifting the engine?). Any help would be greatly appreciated...
You may think I'm crazy (yeah, 30 years of Boilermakin' would do that to a person!) for driving it home under such conditions - however, it was the easiest & least stressful way to go about this task. And it seems to have turned out ok in the end.

Welcome to the forum, Alf. You got your wife one of the BEST Kinds!!! Oil P sending unit is a common issue on 'em, though and likely what you are facing. Search Oil Pressure in the X300 section to read all about it. $50 fix.
Wow - this forum is incredible!
Browsed the X300 FAQ thread - what a treasure trove!! Thanks to all the members who believe in paying it forward...
A simple question remains: my Jaguar is an "XJR" according to the label on the car. Is it also an XJ6 and an X300? If so, how can it be 3 different models at once? Confusing to say the least...thanks in advance for any enlightenment directed towards my confusion!

X300 is the engineering designation for your "platform" of Jaguar. There are many sub-designations. Your XJR is actually an X306. The same car with a V12 is an X305. Later cars with V8 engines (and other changes) were X308.
Usage of these designations became popular because Jaguar used the same marketing name ("XJ6" for example) on many different platforms....introduced to different markets at different times ...with different model year designations and with inevitable overlap. So, there are times when the easiest way to identify what kind of Jaguar is in question is to use the engineering designation rather than model year and/or marketing name.
Your XJR is not an XJ6...although it has much in common with an XJ6. The XJR was a stand-alone model within the "X300" family....as was the XJ12, the base XJ6, etc.
"XJR" is the model/marketing name of your car. Its exact factory designation is "X306". You should post in the "X300" section
Does any of this help ? :-) :-)
Cheers
