Hi, I'm looking for a Jaguar XJR and was reading some really great info on this site, so I decided to join. Hope to find a car soon and will post more when I get a chance. Just wanted to say hello.

Hello and welcome Mike,

No better way to spend time than looking for an XKR.

Hope you soon move from looking to owning.

Default transmission issues 97 xk8

hi everyone , i am new to jaguar i recently purchased a 97 xk8, 98,000 miles on it. all the tensioners and heads were replaced recently, the previous owner i think did no maintenance, we had to flush the oil twice and remove the oil pan each time to remove all the black bits. i have a couple of issues i would like to post.
1, the oil pressure drops sometimes at traffic lights, if i put the car in neutral it is ok, when the car is running / driving it is fine.
2. the transmission has the dreaded transmission fault. fourth gear does not want to work.
if you run the car and manually change gears no code appears but lever will move in to fourth but the gear does not engage, if you put the car in drive as soon as it tries to get in to fourth you get a transmission fault a0706 was the latest code as i moved from fourth to drive. a1176 was another code.

transmission was flushed 5 times and dextron synthetic atf was added supposedly it is approved for zf transmissions.

just looking to see how i can get fourth gear to work, all comments greatly appreciated

Welcome tnts4,

You've 'replied' to OldMike's Intro post instead of starting a new Intro of your own.

Your question might get overlooked here. If you post it again on the XK8/XKR 1996 to 2006 section, the collective brains will come up with the info you need on the ZF transmission issue.

I'm up early and plan to spend the day looking at XJR's --- hope to be a new owner later this afternoon -- wish me luck! I'll post photos if I'm successful!

Mike,

Go easy there and don't get suckered by gleaming paintwork!

Good luck.

Welcome Mike as well!
I recently bought 2001 XKR and I looked at XJR. I thought they were a great looking sedan. But, I had sold my 94 XJS this past summer so it was time to get another convertible. Happy hunting. Remember it is a journey.

tnts4,

Look for the black rectangular New Thread button on the left just above the list of threads. Click on that and you'll bring up the Post New Thread dialogue box. Add a Title of your choice and then put your own Intro message in the empty box.
