Long time owner..First time forum
Hello All! My hope is this introduction finds you safe and secure.
I have been a proud owner of my Sapphire Blue 2000 XK8 since 2005. With family and a hectic career, I have relied on my local shop for all the regular care. As a hobbyist of many hats, my intention was always to take a more active role in the maintenance and repair of "The Baby". In light of Covid and time to finally detail my work shop, I have decided to join your forum with the hope of connecting with spirits of like mind to tackle the mechanical problems I never seemed to have the time to take on. First up is an ignition coil. Just before I was organizing storage for the car this fall, It started jumping into 'reduced performance' mode. A quick check with the mechanic found a faulty ignition coil. So late in the season, I elected to put her away and deal with it in spring. Central Canada winters are no place for a Jaguar XK8. Well now I am on my own to tackle the problem. The local shop is now closed and I did not take note of the faulty cylinder. Question..Is there a way to test for the faulty coil without a mechanics plug in scanner? I have rambled a bit but in reading the..how to be a good member.. sharing a bit more detail to start was recommended.

Welcome to the forums James,
Any low cost generic scanner (or the Torque Pro App for Android) will enable you to read the Pxxxx (Powertrain) fault codes and determine which cylinder. A switch of this and another coil followed by a re-scan will determine if it is a faulty coil or some other cause of misfire. If the code moves with the coil, it's the coil at fault; if it stays with the same cylinder it's going to be harness etc.
Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the Canada Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/canada-73/ to find other members in your region.
Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
Enjoy the forums.
