DINKS(dual income, no kids) have trouble keeping up a Jaguar.

You would be well advised to stay well away from a potentially huge cash drain.

I cannot speak for the costs in Cali, but Jags are more costly to maintain than the average car. Simple maintenance like oil changes, etc, aren't significantly more, but when it needs repairs it will cost you.

A Jaguar can easily eat you out of house and home.

Heh heh. Jaguars? Buying one and keeping one are two different things :-)

If I didn't do all my own work I could never afford to own a Jag.....unless I used charge cards to keep it serviced and repaired.

I agree that a Jag probably isn't the right choice in this case. Nor is any used high-end luxury car, really. BMW, Mercedes, Cad, Lincoln, Volvo....whatever. None are inexpensive to own and maintain.

In my experience it's hard to beat Honda and Toyota for overall cost of ownership.

Cheers
DD

From my experience both owning an older Jag and now a 2005, the day to day costs aren't prohibitive.. It's when it breaks that you're in trouble. Parts are expensive and IMHO it isn't easy to find a mechanic who can properly service a Jaguar when it's broken.
