Looking forward to getting my Jag
Hi everyone,
Glad to be here, I have been looking through some of the posts and you all seem like a cool bunch of folks.
I am looking forward to getting my 2004 X-Type 3.0. I have it all picked out, just have to iron out the details. I'm super excited though.
I have some questions though, before I sign on the dotted line. Are there any questions about the vehicle's previous maintenance that I should ask the dealer about first? Is there anything that I should be weary of? I saw that there was a recall regarding the gas tank seal which I am going to make sure that was already taken care of if that applies.
Also, I have been trying to find out info on common problems that these cars have, and overall quality. The reviews that I have found have been generally good.
What are your thoughts on the 04 X-Type 3.0? Good? bad? Should I consider another model? I am looking forward to hearing from the experts :-)

RE: Looking forward to getting my Jag
congrats and welcome to the Jag forum. Its alot of fun here. Push for the CPO (jag select edtion) or if they offer a cheap extended warranty take it for that extra peice of mind.
Make sure you pull a car fax report, and if regular mantainece wasnt performed on the car that can help you haggle price. I am not one to talk about quality, so i will side step that question.
you will fall deeply in love with your Jag, and i mean deeply.

Hey Hey thanks for the responses
I have looked into some warranty info. It actually looks like this one comes with it? But I will definitely confirm which warranty and how long/how many miles with the dealer. It says this: CERTIFIED, BUMPER-TO-BUMPER WARRANTY. If not, then I found a couple of insurance companies that actually offer warranty coverage for however long you want.
I also had a couple of other questions that Iwas having trouble finding answers to, short of just calling up a dealership.
-generally how much does regular maintenance cost for a Jag? i.e. oil changes, other normal maint stuff... Would any of the normal maint be covered under that CPO select warranty? Doesn't look like it, but would be nice.
-What grade of gas (American) do you recommend? Is regular unleaded ok? Or would I need to use supreme? With the way gas prices are, that could potentially be a dealbreaker.

Sorry NJ you will need the 91 octane at the pump and go.
reg maintenance;
A oil change with a multipoint inspection is around $51 at the jag dealer
Tires are your costly items
Most fluid changes are cheap if you have a friend do it, the dealer is pricey.
shocks are average price and the dealer is not that expensive for that.
If you have HID lights i have read here its a bit $$$ the regular is $6 at any auto store.
sorry got to run i hope that gives you a little insight.
YOU WILL LOVE YOUR JAG!!!

Hey there nikkijay n welcome to the forum buddy
Nice choice with the X. On an 04 most problem areas should have been resolved / dealt with but for sure go for the warranty on it. Its worth it for the AWD alone!
Most people your side of the pond do use premium gas.
Good luck

Man, it's crazy how exciting it is to get a Jag. The 04 is a great car with almost every kink worked out, but unfortunately the unreliability of the late 90's is the reason for the bad rep, hence the great price. Don't worry much about the car, but the warranty would put all unrest...to rest. Welcome and enjoy the forum.
