Default Maybe a dreamer, looking for an XK8

Hi forum,

I've been car shopping for a couple weeks now... been looking at everything from Acuras, to Toyotas, Mustangs, Trans Ams and Volvos.

I recently saw an ad for a '97 XK8 and couldn't believe the low(ish) price. It was almost within reach. So with a bit of luck and a lot of determination, I'm going to try to find myself a well maintained/respected XK8 convertible. I have absolutely LOVED these cars ever since they first came out. I would be thrilled to own one.. especially here in So-Cal.. I can't think of a better car to own and drive.

So the search continues. Meanwhile, I'm going to peruse the forum and try to learn as much as I can about them so that I will be an informed shopper.

Cheers

Welcome to the forum cali-XK8,

Follow Steve's link to the HOW TO section and check out the known issues on the early XK8's so you know the questions to ask about any potential purchase.

Enjoy the search and the forum.

Welcome to the forum cali, you have yourself pointed in the right direction it sounds like. With the right maintenance and care these cars can last many miles with pure driving fun.

Different model years do have some pit falls you want to be careful about like nikasil cyl liners and plastic timing chain tensioners. Service records are all so important when looking at any Jag.

Good luck with your search and hope we can help

Hey thanks for that, and thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Lots of excellent links to a great resource of information! I'll be well prepared when it's time to start looking at vehicles (which will be soon hopefully).
