Angry Miss Programmed Key Fob ????

My wife has an older girlfriend who lost her husband and has asked me to sell her 98 XK-8. It is in near perfect condition except for the key fobs are not working. I'm trying to save her some money and help her out and it's looking like it's going to bite me in the butt. I went over to her house, used the keys manually and drove the car home. It was really a pleasure driving it.

This car runs fabulously. No issues at all. I tried to reprogram it when I got it to my home. It looked very positive. Everything works but now, the car won't start. It turns over like crazy, but won't fire up. The way I programmed it was as follows: Held the high beam lever back, which turned the high beam on. I then turned the key to the accessories location. Then I pumped the high beam lever four times. The system/car then beeped. I then depressed a button on the Key Fob, five times, hearing the beep each time. Waiting a period of time and I saw the red light on the "Shifter consul" blink. Removed the key and checked all the buttons worked properly and they did. I put it back in the ignition and it turned over as normal, but won't fire. WHAT DID I DO WRONG ??? ( i did this several times with no change.)

Welcome to the forums JJA Jag,

Your post was automatically locked for moderation because the phrase "sell her 98 XK-8" makes it appear to be a For Sale advertisement. I can see your purpose is asking for help with the remotes and have unlocked it.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Western Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-western-38/ to find other members in your region.

I've added vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. If you want to change these, go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham
