Default My 1988 XJ6

Hi.I recently purchased a beautiful 1988 XJ6.The only thing I could find wrong with the car was front and rear brake pads and horn would come and go.turned out to be a bad contact in the relay..I love doing brakes myself so I ordered the parts and began.I did back ones first as I was still waiting for the front calipers to arrive.Back only needed pads(rotors and calipers were good). When front calipers arrived I did a complete front brake job.Now begin my problems.abs light was on and is still on?It looks like there is no where to secure the abs sensor from the break pad? There is a clip where the old one was secured but no cable that would go to the hub? That's not all.after bleeding the rear and front brakes several times, the pedal still goes all the way down to the floor. No leekes any where.fluid is also full?Second problem is after disconnecting the battery,(it was week so I was changing it.I got all these crazy codes that were not there before;fuel system failure etc? This car ran great before no probs. After I did rear brakes brakes felt new as well. After front ones, you have to pump them to get the car to stop and then back to the floor? Its my first Jag so I would appreciate any advice.Regards,P

Welcome to the forum blueslover. 63 was a great year.

For your tech questions, you need to ask over in the XJ40 section.

I thought that the ABS wheel speed sensor was mounted to the caliper not pad., and from experience the pad wear indicators are delivered separate from the pads.

Did you bleed in the correct order. RR, LR, RF, LF?

Anyhow head over to the XJ40 section and the guys will help you.

Welcome blueslover to the forum. Nice vehicle you have picked up.

Even though you have bled the brakes several times, there must be air still in the system. Richard is correct that the speed sensor is not connected to the pad.

Enjoy all the site has to offer!

Hmmm tricky

Go to the forum main page and scroll down. (to get there from here, scroll to the bottom of this page and click on Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum).

You will see all the different model sections and somewhere around the middle is the XJ40 section.

Click on the Section header and you are in.

I could include the direct link here, but what would you gain from that.
