Default My 1st Jag

Hi everyone. Just bought my first Jaguar. 2003 S-Type 3.0 in Seafoam
green. Love the car. Still getting used to it and have to get a few things sorted out. The transmission lurches forward when you're going 2 mph just before you come to a complete stop. There's also a "snappy" shift between
first and second gear - though not all the time. Other than that, the transmission works fine and shifts great.

Will re-mapping the transmission electronic control module solve this problem ?

Thanks,

Guy

Welcome to the forum Guy,

Good to have you with us.
It might, you have The Lurch you can search on that in the S Type section S-Type / S type R Supercharged V8 - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
You should also look at Jaguar S-Type Ownership Experience - The ZF LURCH Fault
Enjoy the forum.

If you haven't done so already you should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.

Welcome to the forum Guy,

You can tell from Norri's reply that lurching is a regular phenomenon with the S-Type. Follow his links for help and advice.

Hope you're soon shifting smoothly.

Enjoy the forum.

Graham

Default The Lurch....

So it sounds like re-mapping the trans ECM will make a difference. I checked with the local Jaguar dealer, gave him the VIN #, and he said the car had been there many times. Not for problems, but regular maintenance and one bad O2 sensor. The transmission ECM had not been updated according to their records.

Are all of the brakes, rotors, tie rods, etc... the same as on a Lincoln LS ?

I'm getting a "low coolant" message too and have checked it many times and it's always full. Never gets over 1/2 way on the temp. guage. I've read about the problems with the coolant resivior. Should I just replace it ? Is there an updated version that has been stiffened or improved ? Replace the coolant sensor ?

Thanks for all the help. I'm 51 years old and have owned 37 cars in my life. Three were street rods from the 1930's - (1936 Ford Pick-up, 1937 Ford 5 window coupe, 1938 Chevy 2-dr humpback sedan), - and one from the 50's - a burgundy 1957 Chevy 210 hardtop. I've built 2 1963 Split window corvettes from scratch and I think I've painted 17 or 18 cars in my life. One was a 1955 Rolls. I'm a metal fab guy by trade.....

But I've never owned a Jaguar. Till now.

Thanks again for all the help and advice.
