Default My dad's jag

Hello all. I've just taken possession of my father's beloved 1967 e-type - purchased in 1968 from the original owner who returned it after only a few months because he wanted "some american muscle". Although I helped my father work on this vehicle for years as a child, I'm not nearly the mechanic he was...

Dad's parade
I've spent the past couple of years restoring it - and it is running fairly well. Sadly the parking brake was not reconnected after the pinion bearing was replaced on the transmission which will be a difficult fix I'm sure. I also need to replace the steering column bearings/bushings - also likely harder than I expect.

My immediate question has to do with three auxiliary switched in the top right hand corner of the dashboard.

The top right hand corner toggle switch activates the fuel pump when the ignition is on. The next one to the left activates the engine fan (I think?). The last one to the left is a mystery to me.

Any members know the function and specific model/year that these were present in? Most photos of e-type dash units do not seem to show these three toggle switches.

Thank you in advance.

Congratulations on your E-type, but I'm sorry for the circumstances under which you have it.

Someone will be along soon to direct you to the correct section where you can get answers to your questions.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Sorry for your loss but a picture would be helpful. your description sounds like a modification set as the fan is automatic as is the fuel pump in an original car. the 3rd ???

Welcome to the forum wkpatton,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the E-Type forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Northeast Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Welcome.

87 not out, WELL DONE.

You will do fine with that E.

No idea on the switches, though.

There are actually 4 non standard switches as the metal toggle in the top left is also non standard. As with all non standard wiring I am afraid you will just have to run them down. Nice to see the old JCNA member plate which predates 1984 when Jaguar turned the leaper around as did JCNA. Best of luck.

Thank you!

The top left is to raise and lower the antenna.

Top right fuel pump, engine fan and mystery.

Biggest question is why on Earth would anyone want to make lucas electronics even more complex...

Compexity was never the issue for me ...... it was reliability.

The Lucas colour coding has an appealing logic to it. Probably because it reminds Englishmen of the official map of the London Underground!
